Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on February 24, 2026 at his home in Sparks NV with his wife of 41 years Donnita, son Gary and two of his grandchildren Desiree and Damon by his side. He was 71 years old.
James (Matt) a fourth generation Nevadan was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Reno NV to James E. and Joanne L. (Sanford) Friberg on September 5, 1954.
James (Matt) and his wife Donnita married on June 25, 1984 and made their home in Sparks NV where Matt retired as a machinist after 50 years in the trade.
Matt loved sharing a meal with family and friends. He was always ready to help others build, repair and create their dreams. He enjoyed water skiing, camping and just being at home with his family.
He also designed and created amazing waterfalls out of copper and brass in his spare time.
He is proceeded in death by his parents James and Joanne, and sisters Mary and Alicia.
He is survived by his wife Donnita Rose (Easter) Friberg, brother John Raymond Friberg, and his children Anthony Thomas Friberg (Joni), Matthew Scott Friberg (Carolyn), Amy Michele Wilhelmi Farias (Tony), and Gary David Wilhelmi.
Matt and Donnita shared eight grandchildren, Desiree Rose, Spencer William, Damon Matthew, Miles Grant, Riley Anton, Kyla Michele, Quinton James and William Thomas.
Matt also had several brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he loved with all his heart.
A private family service will be held at
St Paul’s Episcopal Church
1135 12th St. Sparks,NV
This is where his ashes will be interned in their memorial wall near his parents and sister.
