Joyce Haas, a beloved woman of strength, independence, and boundless love for her family, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 84.

Joyce was born on November 30, 1941, in Cascade, Iowa, one of ten children. In 1942, her family relocated to San Francisco, California, where she was raised and graduated from Presentation High School. She began her career with Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, where she met the love of her life, Walter Haas. The two were married a year later and began a beautiful life together.

In 1967, Joyce and Walt moved to Sparks, Nevada, where Joyce continued her career with Nevada Bell. Through dedication and hard work, she built a successful career spanning more than 30 years before retiring.

Soon after settling in Nevada, Joyce and Walt were blessed with two children, Brenda and Timothy, who became the center of their lives.

Nothing brought Joyce greater joy than her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, a proud grandmother to Jonathan (Lilly) Taylor and Makenna Taylor, and a cherished sister to her nine siblings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter, and her son, Timothy. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ricks, and son-in-law, Ronald Ricks.

Joyce also treasured her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, each of whom held a special place in her heart. The deep bonds she nurtured throughout her life reflected the very essence of who she was—a woman whose life was defined by love, unity, generosity, and resilience.

A memorial service celebrating Joyce’s remarkable life will be held on August 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery in Reno, Nevada. All who were touched by Joyce’s kindness and beautiful spirit are warmly invited to attend both the memorial service and the reception that follows. Following the service, everyone is welcome to gather at her home in Sparks to share memories, offer condolences, and celebrate a life so well lived.

Joyce’s unwavering love, quiet strength, and compassionate heart will continue to live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever be cherished. We find comfort in knowing she is now in the loving arms of the Lord, reunited with Walter, Timothy, and those who have gone before her.
